Mechanical strength refers to the ability of metallic or non-metallic materials to resist deformation and damage under load. In addition to tensile strength, there are five types of bending strength, compressive strength, torsional strength, and shear strength. The most commonly used strength in engineering is tensile strength. There is a certain conversion relationship between tensile strength and other strengths. Through the tensile strength value of the material, other strength values can be approximately calculated.
When the external force is perpendicular to the axis of the object, the ultimate resistance ability of the object to bend to the moment of breaking is called flexural strength (or flexural strength). The empirical compressive strength is twice the flexural strength, and the flexural strength is twice the tensile strength.
Tensile strength refers to the maximum force (Fb) that the sample bears during the tensile process when it breaks, divided by the stress (σ) obtained by the original cross-sectional area (So) of the sample, which is called tensile strength (σb). ), the unit is N/mm2 (MPa). It represents the maximum ability of a metal material to resist damage under tension.
The mechanical strength of a material includes tension, compression, bending, shearing, impact, fatigue, etc. By testing the mechanical strength of ceramics and metals, you can understand the differences in mechanical strength of different types of materials, and master the testing principles and calculation methods of material strength.
